Introduction to the NCC

As a premier uniformed group in schools, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) is well supported by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education. In recent years, NCC has moved to a higher platform of training young cadets to become effective leaders. For the NCC to play its role effectively, it must continue to reach out for more challenging and meaningful training that will impart important core values that are essential for the future survival of our nation.

The National Cadet Corps has in recent years developed a very good leadership programme for youths in out schools, NCC is at the forefront of offering exciting and challenging adventure training to our young people. These activities encourage the development of grit and daring. Rigorous and challenging training develops them to become well adjusted and reliable individuals, who are alert and sensitive to changes. Such skills and knowledge are essential not only for the survival of the individual but the Nation as well.

NCC and the SAF will continue to create more opportunities for the boy cadets so that they will be better equipped when they are enlisted into the SAF. Through the training they receive, cadets will not only acquire important military skills and knowledge, but also learn to interact and to lead. Through their years of training in the NCC, cadets will understand what it takes to be a good and effective leader. The National Education module being planned in the NCC, will also give them the historical ballast that will contribute to their being committed leaders.

NCC cadets in schools have always been looked upon as students of high discipline; students who have the determination and pride to excel. they have also been observed by their school mates and their teachers as students who are very active in outdoor pursuits. The image portrayed by students has therefore been very positive, and this is attributed to the training they received in the NCC.

The NCC will continue to act as a catalyst for change. New dimensions of challenges are drawn in whenever new activities are introduced. And it is through these meaningful and relevant activities that cadets are imbued with the right values for the development of character and leadership. Cadets will also develop confidence, learn to interact with one another, experience the spirit of camaraderie, and be alert to sudden changes in the environment or situations.

The training that the NCC has offered to thousands of cadets is enormous, and the impact has been widespread. The enthusiasm and determination of our officers are our major strengths in achieving our goals. With excellent programmes of training, we will produce well-developed individuals, whose dynamism, entrepreneurship and acceptance of responsibilities are clearly identified with their experiences gained in the NCC.
